Babes In Toyland Info Board

On behalf of the board of directors of Theatrix Youtheatre Society, welcome to BABES IN TOYLAND!

WHO WE ARE: For those who are new to the organization, Theatrix is a registered charitable organization, and relies on the support of donations and sponsors to fund the productions and families in need. Board of Director meetings are held monthly.

Theatre rental for a one week run is approximately $3500 and we may ask you to assist us in our fundraising activities.

Please note: we are planning a pub fundraiser – stay tuned for more details!

We welcome a wide age range to accommodate many roles. Every child is cast regardless of experience, talent or skill. Our policy in the classroom is based on the Golden Rule – treat others as you want to be treated. Children are encouraged to participate in the creative process. For more information, check our website under ABOUT US.

AUDITIONS: I was so impressed with the enthusiasm, energy, talent and effort that went into the auditions, and it promises to be a very exciting group to work with. We are going to have a fabulous time!

Please bring all outstanding payments (if you have not prepaid) to:

Please note: there is a strong possibility this program may move to a facility on Pinetree, across from Town Centre, in late October. A new Home for Theatrix!!! Stay tuned for more info.

THE SCRIPT: The cast will determine what stays and goes in the script and recreate it. This may include the addition and/or deletion of script and songs. We encourage creativity, and within the confines of the shortened rehearsal schedule, know that the cast will produce an extremely entertaining musical. Please ensure your child has their script for every rehearsal, and is rehearsing daily, not just lines, but cues so they know when to say the line. The first draft of the script is attached. These scripts should be brought to every rehearsal. As lines are distributed, they should be highlighted immediately for practice at home. Practice makes perfect, so please run lines with your child as daily as you can so they can get off book right away.

REHEARSALS: Are from 10-11:30 am every Saturday at Dogwood Pavilion, except for three dates because of City priority access. We will move to Scout Hall on the corner of Porter and Winslow in Blue Mountain Park on these dates:

  • October 18, November 22, and December 6th. Please post these changes in your calendar. I will issue reminders the week before.
  • Rehearsals will include: blocking the play, characterization, singing and choreography.
  • Additional rehearsals will begin after Thanksgiving on Wednesday and/or Thursdays for lead characters and /or what needs extra assistance. Not everyone will be required until closer to show time.

Please note: location is subject to change. We will send out a link to an update page shortly!

All children will have at least one role, if not more. It is important that children come to every rehearsal, otherwise they don’t retain the information which affects the entire group. Repeated absences may require recasting. We like a polished product going into the theatre.

If there is an emergency, please do let me know if your child is going to absent BEFORE the rehearsal. All rehearsals are planned with everyone in attendance, and absences cause problems.

COMMUNICATION: All information will be sent by email, and an UPDATE page will be set up for you to access information on an as-needed basis.

VOLUNTEERING: Parents are invited to participate late November as crew members. A production needs a team and every parent is expected to participate. We buddy parents up so the position is covered, and each parent is able to see the show at least once. Crew in the booth will need to take those roles for the entire run, but they are watching every show.

We will send out a volunteer request early November. We already have crew for Stage Management – thankyou Martin Brown, and Lights. – thank you Joel.

Our Vocal Director, Karen Illman has some private spots available. Please contact Karen directly. Her information is below.

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. We want this to be a very fun, collaborative experience!
